AUBURN – YMCA of Auburn-Lewiston swim classes begin this week. The YMCA will offer the following swim lessons: Parent and Tot, 6 to 18 months; Water Babies, 18 to 24 months; Beginner Tiny Tots, 18 months to 5 years; Tiny Tots, ages 2 to 5; Youth Progressive Lessons, 6 and up; and Adult Swim lessons.

Parent and Tot is designed to introduce infants to the water. A parent is required to participate. Class is scheduled for 9 to 9:30 a.m. Saturdays and, if necessary, an 8:30 to 9 a.m. class will be offered

Water Babies is a 15-minute class catering to the timid new swimmer and has a 1:1 child/instructor ratio. Class times are 10 to 10:15 a.m. Mondays or Wednesdays.

Beginner Tiny Tots is a class designed to prepare little ones for group lessons without a parent being in the pool with them. The class is recommended but not required prior to enrolling in the Tiny Tot program. Class runs 9:30 to 10 a.m. Saturdays.

The Tiny Tot swim program is designed for those age 2 to 5, teaching them to swim and feel safe around the water. Classes are offered at various times on Monday and Wednesday mornings, Tuesday and Thursday afternoons and Monday evenings. All classes run for 30 minutes.

Youth Progressive Lessons are taught from 6 to 7 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays and 10 to 11 or 11 a.m. to noon Saturdays.

Each program runs in eight-week sessions beginning the week of April 26 and ending the week of June 14. Class size is limited. Registration is taken on a first come – first serve basis. All participants must be YMCA members. A yearly (social) membership for those ages 5 and under is $18; a youth membership is $43.

The YMCA is also holding registration for its water exercise program. This form of exercise increases physical strength and endurance without putting stress and strain on the joints. Classes will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays.

New classes are now offered from 8 to 9 a.m. Mondays and Wednesday. The class is free for those with a YMCA full privilege membership. Non-members must pay an $18 social membership fee (good for a year) and a $48 program fee for the eight-week session. Adult swim lessons are offered from 8:45 to 9:30 a.m. Fridays.
