ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) – The St. Paul Saints are looking for someone new to step up to the plate.
The independent Northern League team is auctioning off a plate appearance in a preseason game on eBay. Money collected in the bidding will be donated to local charities. The auction concludes May 3.
The winning bidder must be at least 18 and pass a physical. The person will be signed to a two-day contract, work out with the team for a day and then get an at-bat against Sioux Falls in an exhibition game on May 14.
Manager George Tsamis will decide where the winning bidder will bat in the lineup and how long to keep him or her in the game.
The person will also receive other commemorative prizes, team spokesman Dave Wright said.
The Saints have a history of using gimmicks, and in the past have offered fans haircuts and massages.
