MONMOUTH – “Mary Poppins” will be staged by school students at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday, April 30 and May 1, at Cumston Hall.
Donations will be taken at the door with general seating throughout. Proceeds will support Cumston Public Library and enrichment projects at the Henry L. Cottrell School. Third-grade teacher Nancy Ludewig, director, adapted the story for 63 children from the school.
Ludewig rewrote the play, designed the costumes, choreographed and directed the play. Parents made the costumes, which are varied, colorful and elaborate. Students have been working since January to be ready for the performances.
Ludewig said, “Because of the large number of students who wanted to be in drama, I had to write in many parts which are not in the original play. My play follows the story line, but there the similarity ends.
“There is a speaking part for everyone, but the fourth-graders have carried the heaviest load. I have asked a lot of them and they have done a wonderful job!”
