AUBURN – The post-season has begun in the Auburn Rec Women’s Slowdown Basketball League.

In an opening playoff game Sunday, Old School (4) defeated Shirl’s Girls (5) 42-22. Kristie Morin led with 14 points, Marcy Bedford added 9. Kelly Brower scored 6 for the Girls.

The other first round playoff game involves Young Ones (3) vs Independent Women (6).

Tuesday’s schedule: 6:30 p.m., Rec-Ing Crew (1) vs winner of Old School; 7:45, Palmer’s Insurance (2) vs winner of Young Ones-Independent Women.

Hoop Camp is not participating in the playoffs.

Two losers’ bracket games will be played Thursday.

The tourney continues May 2 and 5. The post-season championship round game is set for Thursday, May 6 at 6:30 p.m.

Final regular season games were played last week. Old School defeated Shirl’s Girls 35-22 as Kristi Morin scored 13 and Betsy Pratt 12. Sarah Seames led the Girls with 14.

Lynn Girard netted 14 points (including four 3-pointers) as Rec-Ing Crew beat Palmer’s Insurance 57-42. Rachel Bouchard paced Palmer’s with 14.

Hoop Camp edged Independent Women 32-28 as Joan Miller tallied 9 points. Katie McKenzie poured in 20 for the Women.

Jaguars take third

The Maine Jaguars finished third in the weekend AAU Basketball Tournament.

In game 1, the Jags dropped a 26-20 decision to the Comets. Mallory Stevens and Bonnie Silkman netted 6 each for the Jaguars. K. Doherty led the Comets with 10.

In game 2, Caryn Howell and Stevens each collected 9 points and Sillman added 7 as the Jags beat the Dixfield Blizzard 33-29. K. Hutchinson paced the losers with 10. S. Daley added 9.

In the Medal Round, the Jaguars edged the Blue Devils 41-39 as Howell scored 14, Stevens 8 and Alyson Webster 7. The Devils were led by Ashley Busque (16) and Allie Lagasse (9).

The Jags lost a tough 41-36 game to the Maine Elite in semifinal action. Howell netted 16. Silkman, Stevens and Webster added 5 each. Brittney French, Rodrigue and Bradgdon all tallied 9 for Elite.

In the game for third place, the Jaguars rolled past the Huskies 53-22 as Stevens notched 16. Howell, Silkman and Webster all added 10. T. Lorentsen and A. Asaro both scored 6 for the Huskies.
