FARMINGTON – Bob’s Discount is closing its doors in Farmington, according to newspaper ads published Wednesday.

A woman at the Farmington store referred inquiries to Bob’s Discount’s corporate office in Lewiston, but there was no answer there early Wednesday evening. Owner Bob Dinan could not be reached.

An ad in Wednesday’s Sun Journal noted that everything in the Farmington store must go, including fixtures and furniture. “We are closing our doors forever in Farmington,” the ad reads.

The store is at Mount Blue Shopping Center on Wilton Road across from Wal-Mart.

As of late 2003, Dinan had opened nine Bob’s Discounts since 1990. They include stores in Lewiston, Greene, North Windham, Skowhegan, Brewer, Farmington, Belfast, Scarborough and Cranston, R.I.

A 10th store in South Paris closed last year after a landlord dispute. Dinan opened the first Bob’s Discount in an old chicken barn in Greene with $500 worth of inventory.

“We didn’t have enough money to even fill up the first floor,” he said during an earlier interview with the Sun Journal. “Now all three floors are full and we have all these other stores.”

Dinan planned to open four more stores this year, including a major furniture store in the Portland area. The Farmington store is advertised as being open from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., seven days a week.
