RUMFORD – Local Shriners will conduct their annual Shriner clinic from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, May 8, in the Rumford Hospital Specialty Care, third floor. The clinic will screen children who require specialized orthopedic care. This is the 10th year that Rumford Hospital has hosted the free event.

The clinic is sponsored by the Oxford County Shrine, the local chapter. The clinic will identify children who can benefit from the free, expert orthopedic care provided at Shrine hospitals.

All children under 18 who have problems of the bones, joints or muscles or problems with healed burns can be seen.

Children referred to the Shrine Hospital in Springfield, Mass., receive free treatment. The hospital treats such problems as clubfoot, scoliosis, hand and back problems, bowed legs, rickets, dislocated hips and problems associated with burns. It is one of 22 Shrine hospitals in the U.S., Canada and Mexico.

The clinic will be staffed by local Shriners and medical professionals from Rumford Hospital and Central Maine Medical Center.

It is open to all children. Families with questions should call 1-800-782-5672. To speed the registration process, organizers suggest that families planning to bring children to the clinic also call the above number.
