CANTON – Selectmen reviewed the floor plan and estimated cost of a new firehouse Tuesday night with architect John Cleveland.

Options of a wood versus metal frame building, and a full foundation or a slab were discussed, and Cleveland will research the choices.

It is hoped the project will go out to bid in June.

The land for the station has been purchased from Carolyn Matott.

A public hearing on phase two of the fire station building will be held at 6 p.m. May 11 before the regular selectmen’s meeting.

Cemetery sexton Todd Piper asked the board to consider more money for cemetery maintenance. The board will review the budget before addressing this request.

Selectmen along with the road commissioner and Ralph Sayer will meet to form a written agreement for repairing Keene Road to make it passable.

Dayl Kaulback from the newly formed Canton ATV club spoke to the board about possible plans to build a trail system in Canton. Danny Mitchell from Dixfield, president of the state ATV club, said the state will license 70,000 more vehicles this year. He said the tourist impact from ATV and snowmobile use in the state generated some $300 million last year.

The Federal Emergency Management Association has funded the repair of the rock culvert on River Road.

John Cronin said there are four teams of softball and baseball for girls and boys, with a total of 54 enrolled.

Fire Chief Wayne Dube was authorized to buy a propane generator for the new fire station.

The Edward Libby property will go on the auction block at 10 a.m. June 9 at the Oxford County Sheriff’s Office to be sold to the highest bidder. A total of $525 in back taxes is due as well as costs and interest incurred in the sale.
