AUBURN – Councilors will begin working on their budget Monday night.
Councilors received brief outlines of their fiscal year 2004-05 budget Friday, but City Manager Pat Finnigan said she’ll present detailed copies during Monday’s Council meeting.
That meeting is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. Monday in the Auburn City Building.
One issue facing councilors is the school department budget. School officials are pushing for a $1.4 million increase in their budget. If councilors agree, that could mean a 91-cent rise in property taxes.
Last year, councilors agreed to a 94-cent tax increase, trimming 55 cents from the city manager’s first proposal. Councilors made those cuts by trimming spring cleanup and ending some weekly trash collections. Councilors also agreed to trim their annual bond issue by $2 million and cut $355,000 from the personnel budget.
