Philip and Tristan Swanson were arrested April 27.
FARMINGTON – Two brothers formerly from York but now living in Farmington face marijuana and cocaine charges. Police allegedly found the drugs in an apartment near the Mallett School.
Philip Swanson, 18, and Tristan Swanson, 21, were arrested April 27.
Farmington police had received a complaint of marijuana growing inside an apartment at 125 Perham St.
Agents from the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency, along with Farmington police and the Franklin County Sheriff’s deputies, executed a search warrant April 27, MDEA Special Agent Supervisor Gerry Baril said.
Philip Swanson was at home when the warrant was executed.
He said his brother Tristan was on his way home from Vermont, Baril said.
The search crew found 16 small marijuana plants growing under fluorescent lights in a room in the apartment, Baril said.
They also found 2 ounces of harvested marijuana buds and leaves, Baril said, and a gun.
Empty tinfoil bundles with a white residue that tested positive for cocaine were found in a room occupied by Tristan Swanson, Baril said. The tinfoil had been used to heat crack cocaine, he said.
Police put a “be on the lookout” alert to police for Tristan Swanson, he said.
Rumford police spotted his vehicle a couple hours later, Baril said.
Police stopped the vehicle and it was discovered that he was allegedly operating after suspension of his license for a previous charge of operating under the influence in Farmington, Baril said.
Police searched the vehicle and discovered a digital scale with white powder residue on it, Baril said. The residue tested positive for cocaine, he added.
Rumford police charged Tristan Swanson with operating after suspension and unlawful possession of schedule W drugs and violating conditions of release, Baril said.
MDEA special agent Vernon Stevens charged Tristan Swanson with unlawful possession of Schedule W drugs for cocaine in the apartment, Baril said, and violating conditions of release.
Philip Swanson was charged with felony aggravated cultivation of marijuana. The charge was elevated because the apartment was adjacent to the school playground, Baril said.
Philip Swanson was free on bail pending trial after his arrest by York police in September 2003 when he was charged with aggravated trafficking and unlawful furnishing of scheduled drugs, psilocybin mushrooms and marijuana, Baril said.
Both men were released from the Franklin County jail on bail with a court appearance scheduled for June 23.
