Creative economy, alive and well:

• 90-minute tours at 12:15 p.m., 1:15 p.m., 2:15 p.m. and 3:15 p.m.

• Departing from the Bates Mill, Fountain Park near Peoples Heritage Bank

• Tours will focus on Lewiston-Auburn’s history and its emerging creative-based economy. Stops include McIntosh & Tuttle cabinetmakers, the Franco-American Heritage Center and Pantheon Guitars.

Saints Peter and Paul Church:

• Shuttle will depart from in front of the main entrance of the Auburn Hilton Garden Inn at 12:30 p.m. and return at about 2 p.m.

• Will the newly renovated church, a Gothic gem modeled after the Chartres Cathedral in France. Guide will discuss religious significance and art regarding the church.
At Olin Arts Center , Bates College
• Black factory: Installation by artist William Pope.L that aims to re-energize discussions about race in America by inviting people to share objects that represent “blackness” to them. 2:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. Olin Arts Center, Bates College Campus, Russell and Bardwell streets, Lewiston.
The Creative Economy Showcase
Free and open to the public at the Bates Mill from noon to 4 p.m., except where noted.

Enter the mill through the main entrance (to the left of Davinci’s restaurant, off Canal Street) or through the entrance adjacent to Fountain Park courtyard (off Lincoln Street). Signs and greeters will be on hand.

Park in the Centreville (Canal Street) or Chestnut Street parking garages, or in the lot adjacent to Mill No. 5 (with the saw-tooth roof). A limited number of handicap parking spaces will be available near the Bates Mill main entrance.

• Making Art Work: Paintings, drawings, ceramics, jewelry and work in fiber, wood and metal by Maine artists.

• The Maine Film House: Specially installed cinema offers a look at the history of Maine film, as well as its future possibilities.

• Public art installation: Created especially for the conference using salvaged mill materials by area sculptor Jonathan Mess, with help from his Leavitt Area High School students.

• Museum L-A: Showcases the Bates Mill and other aspects of Lewiston-Auburn’s manufacturing history. Open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday and 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday.

• L/A Arts Presents: A retrospective video of L/A Arts’ 30 years and its future plans. Make a piece of art with artists-in-residence.

• Creative Economy Resource Center: A clearinghouse of information about Maine’s cultural and economic institutions.

• Maine Downtown Center Presents: Examples of Maine’s vibrant downtowns will be displayed by the Maine Downtown Program.

• Higher education: Presentations by the Maine College of the Arts, Watershed Center for Ceramic Arts, Haystack Mountain School of Crafts and the University of Southern Maine, University of Maine at Orono and Bates College.

• Creative Economy Coffeehouse: What would a creative economy conference be without a hip coffeehouse? Chill out and grab a cup of joe.

• On the Maine Stage: Poetry reading by Beloit Poetry Journal at 1 p.m. and 2 p.m.; juggling showcase by the Oddfellow Theater at 3 p.m.
