DURHAM – The Durham Historical Society will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 11, at the Union Church, Route 136, Southwest Bend. Charles Plummer, in the persona of Chaplain John Wesley Adams, will share some of his experiences in ministering to the Second New Hampshire Regiment during the Civil War.
Plummer will show a series of transparencies related to the chaplain. All are welcome to the free program. Refreshments will be served.

AUBURN – The Androscoggin Valley Past Noble Grands Association will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 12, for a memorial service for departed members at the Odd Fellows Home, 50 Elm St. A potluck supper will be served at 6:30 by the committee members, Lucy Cowles, Suzanne O’Connor and Frances Robitaille. LEWISTON – A Look Good … Feel Better American Cancer Society program for assisting women who are faced with appearance changes resulting from cancer treatment will be offered from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 12, at Central Maine Medical Center’s Cynthia A. Rydholm Cancer Treatment Center.
A volunteer from the National Cosmetology Association will teach a small group of women how to apply cosmetics specific to their individual needs. Hair and wig styling will also be discussed. Wigs are available through purchase or loan. Each participant will be given a complimentary bag of cosmetics made available through the Cosmetic, Toiletry and Fragrance Association Foundation.

Need plants
MONMOUTH – Cumston Public Library’s May Faire committee is looking for home-grown perennials from Monmouth-area flower gardens.
Gardeners are asked to set a few plants and donate them to the May Faire Homegrown Plant Section on May 23. The committee is looking for shade and sun plants. The homegrown plant section is a major fund-raiser for the May Faire, as it provides 100 percent profit.

80th birthday
TURNER – Ruth Lind was honored on her 80th birthday on March 28 at the Turner Village Church. Many relatives and friends attended the celebration.
Lind was presented a cake, flowers, gifts and cards. She was born on Upper Street and now resides with her sister, Elizabeth Brown, on Route 4.
