LIVERMORE – The town’s adjusted recycling rate for 2003 has set a record at 47.9 percent, according to Administrative Assistant Kurt Schaub.

The rate was the result of a 137-ton reduction in solid waste collected by the town and a sharp increase in the total tons of material recycled, Schaub told selectpersons.

“Credit is due mainly to our residents who have changed how they handle their disposables,” Schaub said.

He also praised the Solid Waste Board, which worked to make changes carried out by the transfer station staff.

At the April 26 meeting the board awarded the contract for lawn and landscape maintenance to Jamie Roy for $3,200, the lowest of four bids. Work will include the recreation fields, Brettuns Beach, boat launches and town grounds. The contract will be signed when Roy provides evidence of required liability insurance.

Schaub reported on contact with Paul Bulger, attorney for the Fiorica estate, in which Bulger said the family will recombine the cottage and motel lots on the Long Pond side.

He told Schaub he will seek an extension to the deadline for repair or removal of the structures cited under the dangerous building statute as there are several potential purchasers for the property.

Schaub reported the Planning Board has approved a redrafted dog control ordinance that will allow the code enforcement officer to pursue court action for violations, if necessary.

Planners also approved an amendment to the building ordinance that seeks to remove the section on permit fees and replace it with selectperson authority to establish fees following consultation with the Planning Board.

Carol Fuller of the Androscoggin Valley Council of Governments has estimated the cost for materials to raise the swampy portion of Goding Road at $47,000.

The town will obtain estimates for the work, which will be needed as part of the FEMA grant application, when funding is available.
