RUMFORD – Local Shriners will conduct the annual Shriner clinic on Saturday, May 8, at Rumford Hospital. The clinic will screen children who require specialized orthopedic care. This is the 10th year that Rumford Hospital has hosted the free Shriner clinic.

The free clinic is sponsored by the Oxford County Shrine, the local Shriner chapter. The clinic will identify children who can benefit from the free, expert orthopedic care provided at Shriner hospitals. All children under 18 who have problems of the bones, joints or muscles or problems with healed burns can be seen at the clinic.

Hours will be from 9 a.m. to noon in the Specialty Center on the third floor of the hospital.

Any children referred to the Shrine Hospital in Springfield, Mass., receive free treatment. The hospital treats such problems as club foot, scoliosis, hand and back problems, bowed legs, rickets, dislocated hips and problems associated with burns.

The Springfield hospital is one of 22 in the U.S., Canada and Mexico.

The clinic will be staffed by local Shriners and medical professionals from Rumford Hospital and Central Maine Medical Center. The clinic is open to all children. To speed the registration process, organizers suggest that families planning on bringing children to the clinic should also call the above telephone number.
