This is in response to two items in the May 1 Sun Journal.
June Williams of Jay says in her letter that she is coming of age as a senior citizen. As a senior citizen, what is more important, having a place to live and to be able to keep it, or paying for firemen and police for a place you can’t afford because of rising taxes?
In the story “Session ends without plan,” Carol Palesky said it was a disgrace that the Legislature didn’t agree on any meaningful tax reforms. Gov. Baldacci’s response, “The House tax relief plan was a good vehicle.'” I think the governor’s vehicle crashed.
How many administrations does it take before elected officials start listening to the people about rising property taxes? Carol Palesky started this over eight years ago.
The only reason there is so much hype about Palesky’s plan is it finally got on the ballot for the people to decide. Even ex-Gov. King slammed it down and said what a bad plan it was. He had his turn when this was started while he was in office.
It seems our representatives cannot agree on a tax plan.
I would rather have my glass half-full than empty. Officials should stop slamming Palesky’s plan and come up with something better, and quick, or it will pass by the people of Maine.
