The event is set for Saturday, May 15.
Walkers, cancer survivors, community leaders, team captains and hard workers are needed to make the American Cancer Society Relay for Life a reality in Lewiston-Auburn, organizers say. A volunteer committee meeting will be held at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, May 15, at the Auburn Housing Authority at Great Falls Plaza.
Relay for Life is a fund-raiser in which participants from all walks of life, including patients, medical support staff, corporations, civic organizations, churches and community volunteers to join together in the fight against cancer.
The relay is a team event in which participants walk around a track relay-style overnight. Teams will gather at Lewiston High School on June 25 to show their support and dedication. Volunteers from the Androscoggin community are needed to begin planning now for this event.
“Relay for Life is as much an awareness-raiser about the progress against cancer as it is a fund-raiser,” said Marie Roberge, community executive for development at the American Cancer Society.
Volunteers are needed to organize and recruit teams, seek community support, underwrite and coordinate logistics, find refreshments and prizes, and plan entertainment.
