So far, 343 people have signed the request to change the status of Parker Pond Road.

JAY – Petitions asking selectmen to take all necessary steps to make Parker Pond Road a town way or recreational easement are due May 21 in the Town Office.

Town Manager Ruth Marden said 343 people have signed petitions so far.

Selectmen held a discussion Monday on the road, which leads to Parker Pond in East Jay. It has been posted to use by landowners in the area or by written permission only.

No decisions have been made on its status, Marden said. Once the petitions are in, selectmen will give the information to town attorney Michael Gentile, she said.

Marden said selectmen assured residents Monday that no homes would be taken, even if selectmen decide to do anything once the information is gathered.

Some people who own the road have posted it because of excess partying, noise and litter. Marden said neighbors said they want things the way they once were.

The gravel road had previously been used for access the pond with no restrictions.

Livermore Falls Water District and Central Maine Power have easements over it.

Voters would have the final say on action, if any, selectmen recommend.
