JAY – Roy Hodsdon says he enjoys the community oriented part of policing. He likes helping young children and trying to be a positive role model in their lives, said Hodsdon, 34.

The Rumford man is a newly hired Jay police officer.

Hodsdon said he became interested in law enforcement after serving a short stint in the Air Force’s Security Police.

After he got out in the 1990s, he said it was always in the back of his mind to get into policing again.

Hodsdon and his identical twin, Ray, who serves with the Mexico Police Department, used to own a car parts store in Mexico.

In 1997, Roy and Ray joined the Mexico Police Department. The next year, Roy Hodsdon took a job with Rumford Police Department and now he has moved to the Jay department.

Part of the reason he chose law enforcement, he said, was to curb drunk driving in Maine.

Jay Police Chief Larry White Sr. said that in the few weeks Roy Hodsdon has been on the force, he has already become a “valuable asset” to the department.

“He has cleared some complicated criminal cases and has proven himself to be a team player,” White said. “Officer Hodsdon is a precise and efficient investigator. In the short time he has been employed here, he already has gained the trust and confidence of his fellow officers.”

He is an officer who shows professional concern for quality work, White said.

“I am pleased to have him as a member of our department,” White said.

Hodsdon said he and his wife, Renee, plan to move to the Jay area.
