AUBURN – Helen Mae Higgins, 88, of Auburn, formerly of Dixfield, died Tuesday evening, May 11, at Clover Healthcare.

She was born Aug. 20, 1915, in Poland, a daughter of Curtis and Hazel (Felker) Strout. She graduated in 1934 from Mechanic Falls High School.

On Dec. 17, 1938, in Mechanic Falls, she married Frederick Higgins of Dixfield. He died in 1980.

She lived in Dixfield for over 50 years prior to moving to the Sarah Frye Home in Auburn in 1999.

She was a homemaker and also held a part-time job in the laundry room at the Dixfield Nursing Home. She was a member of the Dixfield Congregational Church, past member of Edwards Social Group, was a member of the WOW’s Club (Widow and widowers), the Dixfield Senior Citizens, Extension and Dixfield Group.

She is survived by two sons, Frederic Higgins and his wife, Sandra of Turner and Earl Higgins and his wife, Barbara of Gorham; four grandchildren, Deanna Higgins, Barbara Campbell, Andrea Higgins and Lauren Higgins; two great-grandchildren, Bryan and Jessica Campbell.

She was predeceased by a son, Roger; sisters, Mildred Verrill and Maude Pike; brothers, Clayton and Clifford Strout.
