WILTON – Wilton Day Extension will meet at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 13, at the home of Jean Rand on Orchard Drive. The program is based on culinary herbs with guest speaker Anne Moody. A meal will be provided by Rand.

Folk singer

FARMINGTON – Folk singer Bill Berlinghoff will perform at the G.I. Coffeehouse from 7 to 10 p.m. Friday, May 14, in the Old South Church. He has appeared from Maine to Virginia and as far west as Colorado and Oregon. Accompanied by banjo or guitar, he sings songs spanning mountain music, popular folk music, topical songs and rowdy singalongs. People are invited to come sing along with, or just listen to, the timeless folk music, organizers said.

Plants for sale

FARMINGTON – The Mount Blue Area Garden Club will hold its annual plant sale starting at 9 a.m. Saturday, May 15, in Meetinghouse Park. Donations of plants may be taken to the park between 7:30 and 8:45 a.m. The club will have its annual meeting and membership luncheon at noon June 1 at the Granary Restaurant. The annual dues are $10. Anyone interested in joining is welcome. Cost for the luncheon will be $9.50, all inclusive. If people are planning to attend, they should call Marion Hutchinson at 645-2067 to reserve a spot.

LIVERMORE – Washburn-Norlands Living History Center has received a positive response from the artistic community art contest, “Capture the Beauty of the Norlands.” People interested in participating may call Norlands at 897-4366 to arrange a visit to the site. All entries in the contest must be received by Sept. 13. There is a $40 registration fee through May 31, after that the fee will be $50. Plant sale

WILTON – The Tyngtown Club will hold its annual plant sale from 8 to 11 a.m. Saturday, May 15, in the Academy Hill School cafeteria. Clumps of locally grown perennials from private gardens, flower and vegetable seedlings, herbs, specialty Oriental lilies and baked goods will be available for sale.

Candidates

FAYETTE – A meet the candidates program will be held at 6:30 p.m. Monday, May 17, at Starling Hall. Candidates running for selectmen and the School Committee are expected to attend.

Cheering tryouts

FARMINGTON – Mount Blue youth cheering tryouts will be held Monday and Wednesday. Tryouts for grades two, three, four and five will be Monday, May 17, and Wednesday, May 19, from 3 to 4:30 p.m. at Mallett School. Each youngster is to bring sneakers.
