Adam Mears is accused of stabbing a 21-year-old.

JAY – A Jay teenager was charged Wednesday with attempted murder and aggravated assault for allegedly stabbing an Auburn man Sunday.

Jay police officer Roy Hodsdon, the primary investigator, arrested and charged Adam Mears, 18, with the new charges at the Franklin County jail in Farmington where he has been held on a probation hold since Sunday, Jay Police Chief Larry White Sr. said.

On Wednesday, Mears was ordered held without bail on the probation hold during an arraignment on that charge only.

Farmington attorney Richard Morton was appointed by the District Court on Wednesday as Mears’ defense attorney for the probation hold charge. He hadn’t been made aware of new charges at that time, he said.

Mears is accused of stabbing Robert Hart, 21, of Auburn twice, once in the chest and once in the back, during an altercation early Sunday morning in Jay.

Mears’ finger was amputated when a folding knife closed on it during the altercation Sunday at B.J.’s Trailer Park in Jay.

The incident unfolded after police responded to a 4 a.m. complaint Sunday about a group of teenagers allegedly consuming alcohol at the Michael Nuzzo residence.

Nuzzo, 44, a father at the residence, was arrested and charged with violation of probation, White said earlier. Nuzzo was taken to Franklin County jail.

At about 5 a.m. police received subsequent calls, one from the Nuzzo residence, about someone being beat up and having a finger amputated and another call about the stabbing coming from a second residence.
