STRONG – Perry Ellsworth has stepped down as chairman of the Strong Board of Selectmen. He’ll continue to serve on the board until July 1.
After selectmen accepted Ellsworth’s resignation with regret, Selectman and former Chairman Clyde Barker was elected to lead the board.
Ellsworth started his new job as Rangeley town manager Monday and felt that he would not be able to give the position of chairman the amount of time that it requires, Ellsworth stated in an e-mail.
In a selectman form of government, the chairman often makes the day-to-day decisions in between the scheduled selectmen’s meetings, he stated.
This requires being accessible at all times, he added.
“The combination of a group of competent elected officials, coupled with terrific hourly employees, makes the position one that gives you a lot of satisfaction in light of the amount of time it takes to fulfill the needs of the position,” Ellsworth stated. “The support of the community is never-ending and greatly appreciated by all that serve in elected or appointed positions.”
Ellsworth said he plans to stay involved in the town, just at a different level than in the past nine years.
