JAY – A judge set bail at $100,000 cash or $200,000 real estate Thursday for a Jay teenager accused of attempting to kill an Auburn man Sunday.
Adam Mears, 18, his hands and legs shackled, asked a few questions of Judge Robert Mullen Thursday in 12th District Court in Farmington. He asked what a jury trial is and if he would be able to see the evidence.
Mullen said that if the case went to trial, it would be tried in front of a 12-member jury. Mullen also said that his attorney, Richard Morton, would inform him of the evidence.
Mears is accused of stabbing Robert Hart, 21, of Auburn twice with a knife during an altercation. According to a court document, Mears was allegedly under the influence when the stabbing occurred at a Jay mobile home park.
Mears had a tattered bandage on his hand where he had cut off a finger when a folding knife closed on it during the altercation. Mears had been held without bail on a probation violation.
