WATERFORD – Sawin Millett, Republican of Waterford, announced his candidacy for re-election to the House from the district that includes the towns of Greenwood, Norway, Waterford and West Paris.

The district’s boundaries didn’t change in the redistricting, but its number did: It’s now House District 95.

During the current Legislature, Millett has been a member of the Joint Standing Committee on Appropriations and Financial Affairs. He was also appointed to the Joint Select Committee on Health Care Reform, which produced the Dingo Health Care legislation, and the committee to study privatizing Maine’s wholesale liquor business.

“I have tried very hard to encourage fiscal responsibility, setting spending priorities while avoiding the temptation to raise taxes in the short term and taking a long-range approach toward reducing the rate of growth in state spending,” Millett said in a prepared statement.

“The majority party’s obsession for power at all cost’ and the constant partisan infighting … will not improve without a significant change in the makeup of the Legislature,” Millett said. “And if am re-elected, I will rededicate my efforts toward promoting a more civil and respectful process in the conduct of House business and a more leadership-focused, collaborative and orderly approach to problem-solving and decision making.”

Millett is a retired educator and longtime state and local government official. He and his wife, Barbara, own and operate a small family farm in Waterford.

Millett may be reached at 583-4842 or [email protected].
