The festival will give dogs a chance to show off their talents in contests.
LEWISTON – The Greater Androscoggin Humane Society will hold its annual Strutt your Mutt Dog Walk and Pet Festival from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, May 22, at Railroad Park.
Due to support from sponsors, this year’s event will include a number of new attractions. In addition to the return of the Feline Foto Contest, the day will include the Blessing of the Animals, dog baths, bake sale, raffles and canine agility demonstrations. Attendees can enter their pooch in one of the talent contests. Contest classes will include Best Tail Wagger, Least Obedient Dog, Stupid Pet Tricks, Best Smile and Bobbing for Burgers.
All walkers are asked to collect pledges. There will be a registration fee for the talent contests of $3/class or four classes for $10. The money received will go directly to the homeless, abandoned and abused animals at Humane Society for their food, shelter, veterinary care and a chance at a new home.
The society is encouraging businesses to pull together walking teams and a special prize will be awarded to the business that raises the most money.
This is a “people” walk; dogs are welcome, but not necessary. Dogs must be leashed and have their current rabies vaccination; no dogs in heat.
Pledge sheets are available at the Androscoggin County Chamber of Commerce in Lewiston, the shelter in Auburn and area businesses or online at www.gahumane.org.
The Greater Androscoggin Humane Society is located at 3312 Hotel Road in Auburn. The primary support comes from fund-raising events and donations. If interested in learning more about volunteering at the shelter or adopting an animal, call 783-2311 or visit the Web site.
