JAY – A Jay woman was hospitalized Monday after she was involved in a one-vehicle crash near the town’s Transfer Station on Route 4.

Meredith Farrington, 61, told Jay police officer Richard Caton IV that she had blacked out, Caton said.

Farrington was traveling north on Route 4 in a section referred to as the flats in North Jay when she drifted into a ditch and struck an embankment head-on, Caton said.

The vehicle then went over an embankment and continued down the ditch, back onto Route 4, he said. It crossed both lanes before coming to rest in the breakdown lane.

Jay firefighters assisted at the scene.

Farrington complained of chest pain and was transported to Franklin Memorial Hospital in Farmington.

Spokeswoman Jill Gray said she was admitted into the hospital.
