LEWISTON – Christopher Martineau of Troop 116 was presented his Eagle Pin and Award by Scoutmaster Peter Lajoie and Laurier Thibault, charter representative, at an Eagle Court of Honor on April 18 at Holy Cross Church. Guest speakers at the ceremony were Msgr. Rene Mathieu and Abnaki District Executive Matt Mower.
Martineau, son of Roger and Doris Martineau of Sabattus, achieved the rank of Eagle Scout on Sept. 23. He is a junior at Oak Hill High School and attends Lewiston Regional Technical Center’s computer aided engineering and machine tool programs.
For his Eagle project, Martineau worked at embellishing Martin’s Point Park and Public Boat Launch in Sabattus. He built and installed picnic tables and a park bench along with planting flowers for the enjoyment of its patrons.
Martineau began his Scouting career at age 7 as a Bobcat Cub Scout and worked through the ranks. He achieved numerous merit badges, two religious awards and received his mile swim and Challenging Outdoor Personal Experience awards. He was honored by his troop by being nominated into Order of the Arrow, an honorary Boy Scout association, where he achieved his brotherhood status.
Martineau served as a training instructor, patrol leader, Order of the Arrow liaison, Cub Scout liaison and was a Cub Scout den chief. He plans to enter college to major in engineering and minor in business administration. He has been active in football, lacrosse and Future Business Leaders of America at Oak Hill High School. He also a member of the National Technical Honor Society.
He is an avid competitive mountain bicyclist, downhill skier and snocross racer. He also enjoys snowmobiling and is a member of the Sabattus Mountaineers, where he is involved in trail maintenance. Martineau is taking electricity classes through adult education to enhance his job performance as a licensed electrician’s helper.
He attributes his success due to the opportunities and encouragement from his parents. He also feels that the support and guidance from his Scout leaders has helped him achieve Boy Scout’s highest rank of Eagle Scout.
