SALEM – SAD 58 directors will hold a public hearing Tuesday on a proposed $8.85 million budget to operate the schools for 2004-05.

The spending plan includes $24,600 for adult education and reflects a 2.04 percent or $177,205 increase over the existing budget, Business Manager Anne Stinchfield said.

There is a $41,306 in new debt service for the Phillips school and also $4,182 in debt service to connect that school to the town’s water supply, Stinchfield said.

The budget that will go before voters in June was reduced from an initial $9.14 million draft proposal introduced in February.

The public hearing is scheduled at 6:30 p.m. at Mount Abram High School.

If the budget is approved as proposed, cost projections for each of the five towns in the district, are as follows:

• Avon would be responsible for $314,367, which reflects a 6.56 percent or $19,364 increase over the existing budget.

• Eustis’ share would be $1.02 million, an increase of $45,081 or 4.62 percent.

• Kingfield’s responsibility would be $761,294, which reflects a $14,758 or 1.98 percent increase.

• Phillips would see its share rise to $600,516, an increase of $42,734 or 7.66 percent.

• Strong’s portion would be $620,381, a decrease of $1,168 or 0.19 percent.
