CANTON – Law enforcement people and a search and rescue team, along with five cadaver dogs, searched the Meadow View area Monday for the remains of Kim Moreau of Jay, who has been missing for 18 years.

Her body wasn’t found Monday but the searches will continue, said State Police Detective Mark Lopez said.

Moreau was 17 went she was last seen leaving her Jewell Street home in Jay on May 10, 1986, with an unknown individual who was driving a late model white Pontiac Trans Am.

“I don’t think we’re done,” Lopez said.

Last December, someone left an anonymous note on the back of a poster with Kim’s picture on it at the Irving Big Stop, which was turned over to police, Lopez said.

As a result of the note, searchers focused on the Meadow View area, off Route 140 in Canton and near the Gilbertsville Bridge over the Androscoggin River, Lopez said.

Last year, Moreau’s father, Dick Moreau, and volunteers had taped hundreds of those posters to poles and stores around the region. It offers a $5,000 reward for the location and remains of Kim Moreau or the conviction of the person or persons responsible for her disappearance.

On Monday, about 20 law enforcement people and members of a search and rescue team helped search, Lopez said.

“We covered several acres and the searches will continue,” Lopez said.

Lopez says it’s obvious that there’s at least one person out there who could end the torment for the Moreau family.

More searches are planned for Canton and Leeds, Lopez said.

Last year, more than five searches were conducted in Canton, Jay and Livermore Falls.
