RUMFORD – Selectmen will hold a public hearing on four sites recently named as Pine Tree Zones in a state economic development plan.

The hearing begins at 6:30 p.m. Thursday in the conference room of the Municipal Building.

Sites in several River Valley towns have been identified as Pine Tree Zones, which would enable specific businesses that move into them to take advantage of a variety of state tax incentives. The sites in Rumford are: the former Thurston’s mill on Route 2 west; the town’s new industrial park off Route 108; a portion of the town’s first industrial park, also off Route 108; and the River Valley Technology Center on Lowell Street in the downtown area.

Voters will decide whether to accept the Pine Tree Zone designations at the annual town meeting on June 7.

At 7 p.m., selectmen will begin their regular, twice-monthly meeting.

Among the agenda items is a discussion with Fire Chief John Woulfe about the condition of the fire fighting apparatus fleet. That includes a request to approve the purchase of a new rescue truck and used pumper truck, said Town Manager Robert Welch.

Other Fire Department matters, such as the planned construction of a temporary building to house the town’s new ladder truck and further information on a town meeting warrant article asking for approval to build a new fire station may also be discussed.

Other items on the agenda include awarding the contract for the purchase of PVC piping for use during planned sewage extensions, awarding the contract for the sale of a 1967 pumper and appointment of a warden and deputy warden for the June 8 primary election.
