SEARSMONT (AP) – A Belfast man faces charges of vehicular manslaughter and aggravated drunken driving following a fatal crash last weekend in Searsmont, authorities said Wednesday.

Adam Weymouth, 25, was drunk and speeding Sunday afternoon when his car went off Route 173, struck a rock and overturned. One of Weymouth’s two passengers, Richard Gould Jr., 27, of Morrill, was killed in the crash.

Weymouth was arrested Tuesday and taken to the Waldo County Jail in Belfast.

State trooper Jason Richards said an accident reconstruction report indicated that the car was traveling at 76 mph, more than 30 mph over the limit.

The trooper said Weymouth had been drinking at a party the night before the crash and also that morning.
