AUGUSTA – Melvin G. Wade Sr., 85, of Farmington, died Tuesday, May 18, at the Maine Veterans Home.

He was born April 28, 1919, in Mercer, a son of Lemert E. and Merle (Brown) Wade. He graduated from Farmington schools and served in the Army Air Corps from 1942-46.

Mr. Wade’s working life was spent mainly as a textile worker in mills in Lewiston and Winthrop. He retired from Carleton Woolen Mills in 1982. He enjoyed walking, gardening, and raising and showing exotic birds.

He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Harriette Bridges Wade; her daughter, Martha Bridges; a son, Rodney Bridges and his wife Barbara; eight children from his 1946 marriage to Marjorie Webber Wade Pierson, Elton Wade and his wife, Betty Jo, Melvin Wade and his wife, Joan, Charles Wade, Thomas Wade and friend, Sue McIntyre, Peter Wade and his wife, Nancy, Linda Peters and her husband, Wayne, Robert Wade, Melissa Morrill and her husband, Tom; a brother, Ronald Wade; sister-in-law, Peg Wade of Delaware; daughters-in-law, Rhona Wade and Kim Wade; 20 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; a niece; and a nephew.

He was predeceased by his brother, Lemert Wade Jr.; son, Stephen; and several grandchildren.
