OTISFIELD – The Fourth of July plans for this community have been modified a bit because the holiday falls on Sunday this year.

That could have created problems for two churches in the community so Pastor Doug Kesler of Spurr’s Corner Church and Pastor Gertrude DeCoteau of the East Otisfield Free Baptist Church worked out a program to accommodate both parishes.

Otisfield offers one of the biggest Fourth of July celebrations annually, with a parade that travels from Sherwood Drive to Spurr’s Corner Fire Station. The pastors’ plan will include a free breakfast at the Spurr’s Corner Church sponsored by both churches at 7:30 a.m. July 4.

Spurr’s Corner Church will hold its service at 8:30 a.m. The East Otisfield Free Baptist Church service is scheduled for a 10 a.m. service. The parade will start at 10 a.m. and at 11 a.m. ceremonies at the fire station will begin.

Both pastors will participate in the ceremonies, with Kesler addressing the crowd at the beginning and DeCoteau at the end. Residents in Seeds of Peace and Camp Arcadia will be invited to participate in the parade, as Seeds of Peace has done annually.

Fire departments from neighboring communities will also be contacted to be in the parade. Those include departments in: Naples, Mechanic Falls, Casco, Poland, Oxford, Harrison, Norway, South Paris, Waterford and Bridgton.
