LEWISTON – With most morning matches just two games into the first set, the Maine Principal’s Association was forced to postpone the 2004 singles championship round of 40 until Tuesday.

With 16 matches on the courts at both Lewiston High School and at Bates College, the sky opened, sending people scattering for cover. Less than a half hour later, after officials checked the weather reports, players, coaches and spectators were sent on their way. With an unfavorable forecast for Monday, the first day on which the tournament could be played, tournament directors felt Tuesday would be the best option.

Adam Platz of Edward Little was one game into his match against Matt Dubois of Westbrook. Mike Burke and Adam Wilding of Lewiston and Gabe Bedoya of Dirigo were not scheduled to play until later in the morning.

Garrett Currier of Cape Elizabeth, last year’s runner up, is the top seed in the boys’ draw, and Laura Stein of Camden Hills is the top girl in the field.
