I would like to respond to Rev Douglas Taylor’s letter on May 17. Rev. Taylor wrote the “magic” words: “make believe.”

I don’t know of any real Wicca groups that have a three-headed dog, talking spider and a flying car.

I did not read or see any rituals performed by the children in the Harry Potter books or movies that indicated anything of any type of religion in Wicca or neo-pagan. But what I did see was a young boy abused emotionally and physically by his own flesh and blood in the story.

I also saw how that young boy defended the weak and knew right from wrong. I never read or saw that he used his magic to hurt anyone for the sake of hurting, unlike what his own family did to him. He used his magic to help. He accepted his family for who and what they were.

I wonder why the Rev. Taylor couldn’t see those qualities in the stories and use them to his advantage because it is possible to do that. Instead, when I read his letter, all I could think was: Didn’t we used to burn witches at one time? Is that what he is about?

Perhaps he should stop thinking in one dimension and broaden his mind. The Bible is not the only place one can find good things, but I guess if someone looks really hard, they can find the bad in all things.
