GORHAM – The USM/Fleet Youth Ensemble Program at the University of Southern Maine will hold auditions this week and next for the instrumental program for 2004-05 season.

Students who will be high school seniors or younger are eligible to apply.

Auditions will be held for the: Youth Wind Ensemble, Youth Symphony Orchestra, Youth Junior Orchestra and Young Peoples’ String Consort.

The auditions will be held on: Tuesday, May 25, for strings only; Thursday, May 27, for flute, oboe and bassoon; June 1 for strings, brass and percussion and June 2 for clarinet, saxophone, piano and harp.

Under information “for our new and returning members,” that site has information about how to apply for an audition, the requirements for each of the four groups and for the audition pieces, and details on the rehearsal schedules.

Young musicians who are accepted into the program work with USM faculty, members of the Portland Symphony, and the DaPonte and Portland String Quartets. The youth ensembles perform their concerts annually at Merrill Auditorium in Portland.
