MEDFORD – Eric Cavers of Otisfield and Wilton’s Trevor Alexander were among 27 Div. II and III baseball players selected for the 2004 New England Intercollegaiate Baseball Association All-Star Game scheduled for May 30 at Fenway Park.

With the game following a Red Sox-Mariners contest, the starting time is estimated for 7 p.m.

Cavers is a junior catcher from Franklin Pierce, while Alexander pitched for Wheaton College. Representing Southern Maine are third baseman Brian Marshall and outfielder Adam Lemieux .

Maine coach leaving for year

ORONO – University of Maine softball coach Deb Smith has announced that she will be taking a one-year leave of absence from her position due to personal reasons.

Michelle Puls, currently the assistant coach, has been named the interim head coach.

This past season, Smith led the Black Bears to the third highest win total in school history (28-23), an America East championship and a trip to the NCAA tournament.
