TURNER – One of the town’s rescue units will get some upgraded equipment following a request by Turner Rescue Chief Laurel Gagne to selectmen Monday night.

A rebuilt Life Pack 12 machine will be purchased, which will upgrade that piece of equipment so that it matches the Life Pack already carried on another unit. The Life Pack 12 the town already owns was purchased earlier this year through a grant to the Rescue Department from the federal government. The rebuilt model will cost $16,000, but with a trade-in of $6,000 and $5,000 from the memorial fund, Gagne asked the town for $5,000.

Selectmen approved the purchase but had some discussion as to where the funds should come from. The Rescue Department has collected more in billings than was expected, but the Life Pack wasn’t listed in the town warrant for voter approval to come from that budget. With only one month left in the fiscal year and a large balance left in the contingency funds account, the board voted to take the money from that account.

In other business, the board will begin appointing members to the Zoning Review Committee. The committee will consist of nine members, who will develop ordinance changes based on the newly approved comprehensive plan. Anyone wishing to participate should contact Town Manager Jim Catlin.

Selectmen also instructed the town manager to look into the purchase of a street sweeper. A machine has been offered to the town by another municipality, and it was described as a “good deal.” The town does not own a street sweeper.

The board accepted the bid of Commercial Paving of Scarborough at $215,663. The bid covers hot top, cold mix and other necessary road improvement mixes. The major projects listed for paving or repair this spring include parts of General Turner Hill Road, Wood Street, Teague Avenue, Pleasant Pond Road, County Road and Fish Street.
