PORTLAND – Moxielab is presenting the Maine premiere of “Far Away” by Caryl Churchill, directed by Louis Frederick, through May 30 at the Portland Performing Arts Center.

“Far Away” is about a young girl growing up amid a landscape of increasing violence and political unrest. While visiting her aunt at her comfortable, country home, Joan stumbles across a brutal secret.

What she witnesses on that dark summer night, however, is just a hint of the world to come in which spectacle and violence walk hand in hand. Improbable enemies take si

des, as Latvian dentists, crocodiles and even grass join an ever-escalating struggle whose origin seems unknown. The entire world is splintering apart, tearing at the seams.

The play will be staged at 8 p.m. Friday, Saturday and Sunday, May 28, 29 and 30, at the Portland Performing Arts Center, Studio Space, 25A Forest Ave.

Tickets are $15 per person; student tickets are $10. People can call toll-free (866) 242-0084 for reservations. No late seating.
