I am responding to those few who think we are making too big a deal of the abuse of Iraqi prisoners. Abuse makes brutes of us and makes our proselytizing of freedom a mockery. We would not tolerate such things done to our people. Are there two kinds of freedom, ours and theirs?

We lower standards of acceptable conduct when we condone and promote this type of brutality. These soldiers will return with those lower standards. Many were dismayed at the collection of wife killings among returning soldiers at a Virginia base a few months ago. Somebody forgot to deprogram them.
