Jacquelyn Smith’s letter to the editor on May 19 prompted a large discussion at the Androscoggin Valley Retirees meeting on May 20.

We are all members of the Maine State Employees Association and any messing with our retirement is of vital concern to us. We had a lengthy discussion at our meeting and learned some very important things.

Although the Legislature may have taken $10 million as an accounting device from the retirement fund, they put it all back. Also, not only did they put it back but, with Peggy Rotundo’s help, they added some significant improvements in the law to further protect retirees.

We are shocked that Paul Madore or his supporters would stoop to such misinformation in his campaign against Peggy Rotundo. We know that Peggy has been an advocate for us for as long as she has been a senator.

In the past, our union has endorsed Peggy and we hope that they do so again. We passed a unanimous resolution at our meeting to support Peggy because she has helped us in the past and has not spread false rumors.
