The state, in a face-saving gesture, agreed to look at and change the 2-year schedule of rabies shots for dogs. This issue has been reported in several media outlets, including columns by Kalle Oakes.

My 7-year-old lab went from 100 to 40 pounds and finally died recently with malignant lymphoma. I believe this immune system issue was brought on by a recent rabies shot. This is the third pet we have lost after their third or fourth 2-year scheduled shot. All died the same way.

Veterinarians are not required to inform owners of toxicity or risks to animals for vaccine shots or any other treatments. They also are the purveyors of pet medications – all money-making operations.

The big question is: how much can vested interests like the vet lobby influence senior state policymakers?

Are state policymakers rushing to cover their butts?

Is there any redress for grieving and agonized pet owners other than class action lawsuits?

Should pet owners get pets vaccinated when overwhelming evidence and scientific studies recommend otherwise?

Obey the law and jeopardize your animal.

Even though state representatives say they will change the reading of the law by October, why so long and late?

They only took action when the media became part of the issue and the state was made transparent in its resistance to change.
