Two big projects will make getting out of downtown tough this week.
Water Department crews are expected to begin closing Canal Street between Maple and Cedar to put in a new water line. That should close at least one southbound lane daily and create traffic delays.
Meanwhile, city crews will be moving the Gulley Brook sewer project off Bartlett and onto Pleasant Street by Thursday. That road will be down to one lane – and may be closed completely at times – through August, said project engineer Jeff Beaule. The Gulley Brook project will then continue up Webber Street.
Water Department crews are scheduled to begin putting in a water line on Pleasant between Scribner and Lisbon streets in July. State crews will repave that stretch in August.
“July and August will really the be worst there,” Beaule said. “We’ll be working both sides of the hill.”
Auburn crews will close Vickery Road to through traffic daily this week, according to project engineer Jim Depalma. That’s part of a street widening project there.
Drivers on Pownal Road and Riverside Drive should plan to detour around the work, Depalma said.
