LEWISTON – Bates College sophomore Averill Cook was selected as an honorable mention All-America by the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association Tuesday afternoon.
Cook was the leading defenseman for the Bobcats this season, earning First-Team All-NESCAC and Second-Team All-New England honors. He is just the second Bates player to ever earn All-America honors, joining Patrick Gaughan who was an honorable mention selection at midfield in 2002.
Bates finished the 2004 season 2-9, 1-8 NESCAC. The Bobcats suffered five one-goal losses and one loss by two goals, playing right with several of the nation’s top-ranked teams.
Cavers leads college division at NEIBA All-Star game
RINDGE, N.H. – Franklin Pierce first team All-American Eric Cavers from Otisfield was named the Louisville Slugger Most Valuable Player as he led the College Division (Divisions II and III) to a 9-6 victory over the University Division (Division I) at the 30th Annual New England College Baseball All-Star Game at Fenway Park Sunday night.
Cavers, hitting the No. 3 spot in the College Division lineup, was 3-for-3 with a double and two runs scored on the night. Cavers, who had two of the College Division’s first three hits, got his night off to a fast start by doubling down the left-field line in the first inning. He led off the fourth with a single through the left side and scored on a triple by Williams College senior Jabe Bergeron. Cavers added another single to left in the fifth inning and later scored on an error.
