CHESTERVILLE – Nancy A. Tucker died peacefully at her home in Chesterville surrounded by her family and loved ones on Wednesday, May 26, at the age of 84.

She was born June 10, 1919 in Waltham, Mass., the daughter of Frank and Helen Coburn Andrews. She graduated from Waltham High School in 1937 and attended the Chandler School for Women in Boston.

She married Donald W. Tucker in January of 1943. Nancy and Donald moved to Ellsworth in 1951, where Donald began his chiropractic profession. While raising five children, she was also very active in the local Grange and served on the Ellsworth School Board.

They moved to Farmington in 1966, and Nancy became actively involved with the Republican party and was a member of the Electoral College. She was proud to carry the vote to the 1981 inauguration of President Ronald Regan. She was very passionate about the Pro-Life movement and gave tirelessly of her time and efforts for the lives of the un-born.

She supported her husband’s profession and was very influential in lobbying for chiropractic care for the people of Maine when the chiropractic profession came under attack in the 1970s.

She was also a past member of the Order of the Eastern Star in Farmington.

Nancy and Donald opened their hearts and their home to many college-age students who needed a place to live while getting their education at the University of Maine at Farmington, some from as far away as Laos and Nigeria. She also hosted many visiting missionaries and was always so happy to open her home to anyone who needed it.

Nancy was a lifelong volunteer and some of her activities included volunteering weekly for several years at the local thrift shop, cooking for different organizations at the Franklin County Agricultural Fair, serving with the Associated Charities Organization which provided wheelchairs and other medical equipment for those in need and providing clothing and assistance for needy families.

She was the recipient of many honors and awards from various organizations for her service to the community.

She was a member of the Farmington Baptist Church and gave of herself at her church and loved her church family and sharing the love of God with others. She was a wonderful, kind and loving wife, mother and grandmother and a giving friend to so many people. She will be fondly remembered and very sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.

She is survived by her loving husband of 61 years, Donald W. Tucker of Chesterville; her five children, Martha Beathem and her husband Steven of Ellsworth, Stephen Tucker and his wife Anne of Charlestown, Mass., Peter Tucker and his wife Bonnie of Augusta, Douglas Tucker and his wife Anita of Wilton, and Beth Childs and her husband Lindy of Chesterville; 14 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
