OTISFIELD – Residents with property on Saturday Pond questioned selectmen Wednesday night about a proposed year-round camp scheduled to house up to 400 people on the pond.
Selectman Lenny Adler said he had no more information than what was reported in the newspaper.
At a previous board meeting, Planning Board members informed selectmen they were unsure whether the camp is considered residential or commercial. Paperwork filled out by the developer lists the camp as residential.
Selectmen have sent the Planning Board information about the development to town attorney Geoffrey Hole to make the determination. They have not heard from him yet.
There is no commercial use permitted in a residential shore land zone, Adler assured residents Wednesday night.
The proposal was submitted by Manasseh Inc. The nonprofit group purchased 156 acres on Saturday Pond for the project. The first development in the proposed youth camp/retreat will house 200 transient residents and dining space. The entire project will house 400 campers or transient residents.
In other business, Selectmen Assistant Marianne Izzo-Morin informed the board the Oxford Post Office said hand-delivered notices were placed in several mail boxes in the community. Postal officials asked that residents be informed this is a federal offense.
