AUBURN – Rep. Thomas Shields of Auburn has announced his candidacy for District 68 of the Maine House of Representatives.

“I plan on continuing to ensure Maine’s truly needy are protected while pursuing policy that will make Maine a place where jobs are created,” said Shields. “There has been a great deal of talk about ways to invite and entice entrepreneurs to create jobs, but now is the time to follow through on that talk so that all Mainers can prosper.”

Shields has served three terms in the Legislature representing part of Auburn. A retired physician, he has been a member of the Joint Standing Committee on Health and Human Services all three terms and was appointed ranking Republican member in the 121st Legislature.

Prior to his retirement, Shields was a board certified orthopedic surgeon. He received his undergraduate degree from Westminster College in Missouri and his medical degree from St. Louis University. He was also a major in the U.S. Air Force.

Shields and his wife, Bethel, have five children.
