Lewiston has a dedicated advocate in Sen. Peggy Rotundo. Sitting next to her in the Maine Senate, I am impressed at the detail she considers in assessing the local impact of bills.

Peggy works hard for the entire state. When the Appropriations Committee was asked to terminate services for vulnerable citizens, she helped us limit, but preserve, basic help, despite continuing revenue shortfalls.

Rotundo worked with me to pass two laws improving accounting by the departments. As chair of the State and Local Committee, she focused on solving the problem. A new accounting manual, better training and more reporting of inconsistencies are now the law.

In Appropriations, she asked hard questions of departments with the weakest accounting. Usually they came back with more money from revised figures as a result.

My Senate colleagues count on Peggy to preserve our values while living within our means. Citizens of Lewiston can too.
