LIVERMORE FALLS – Incumbent Selectman Kenny Jacques is being challenged by Tammy Greaton for a two-year seat on the Board of Selectmen Tuesday.

Incumbent Selectman Bill Demaray is running unopposed for re-election to a three-year term. Town Clerk and Treasurer Kristal Flagg is unopposed in her bid for re-election.

Running unopposed for SAD 36 Board of Directors are incumbents Elaine Smith and Rhonda Drake. One three-year SAD 36 term remains open, with no candidates filing papers for that seat.

Polls are open from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. June 8 at the Livermore Falls Fire Station.

Both Jacques and Greaton were asked this question:

“If elected, how do you plan to control spending yet sustain services?”

Jacques: “Regionalization. I feel that Jay, Livermore and Livermore Falls should join together to provide services – highway, fire, dispatch, police, boards, manager. I believe we should be one community,” Jacques said. “We’ve done well with Livermore. We hope that Jay will start collaborating more with Livermore and Livermore Falls.”

Greaton: “I think there is a lot of work to be done on state tax reform,” Greaton said. “The spending coming down from state to the local has been dwindling as our needs have been rising. Reform includes new revenue generation. The other piece includes community economic development. We need new business to expand our tax base. We need to think about it as a healthy community, not just as attracting businesses. We need to think about what’s good for Livermore Falls. We need to try to attract diverse businesses. Livermore Falls needs so much. We don’t need two businesses that compete.”
