FARMINGTON – Lance Harvell, a native of Farmington, announced recently that he will seek election in House District 89, made up of Farmington and Industry.

Harvell said in a prepared statement that he is running to protect the future of his children, “so that they can at least have the opportunity to raise their own families in our wonderful community.”

He said he has seen the economic devastation of western Maine. “The jobs are disappearing rapidly,” the same jobs that his grandfather, grandmother, father, mother and sisters worked, he said.

If elected, Harvell said he will make it his top priority to support the small businesses in Maine “and seek to alleviate the tax and regulation burdens that have made Maine such a poor state in which to create and sustain businesses. The days of bipartisan bickering have to stop. Job creation has to be job one in Augusta.”

Harvell, who also ran for senator two years ago, said he looks forward to the opportunity to go to Augusta and give current Sen. Chandler Woodcock “the support and help he needs.”

Harvell was born and raised in the area, and served a five-year stint in the Air Force, serving overseas. He worked in the hay fields as a teenager. He is currently employed at International Paper.

Harvell and his wife of 17 years, Bernadette, and their two children live at 398 Knowlton Corner Road in Farmington.
