LIVERMORE – Four people are vying for two positions Tuesday while several contests are going unchallenged. Balloting will be from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. June 8 at the Brettuns Community Building.

Incumbent Selectperson Tom Berry is being challenged by Robert Pulsifer for a three-year term on the Livermore Board of Selectpersons.

Catherine Ouellette and Tracy Richards are both seeking one two-year term on the SAD 36 Board of Directors.

Running unopposed are Selectperson Brenda Merrill, Town Clerk Renda Libby, Treasurer Kurt Schaub and SAD 36 Director Jean Tardiff.

Each candidate running in a contested race was asked:

“If elected, how do you plan to control spending yet sustain services?”

Richrads: “I think that all of the options when it comes to spending should be explored in order to sustain services that are needed,” Richards said. “Every year the budget is the most pressing issue … we need to be making sure the children’s needs are being met and at the same time we need to make sure the taxpayers are not being over burdened.”

Ouelette: “There’s a lot of area in the system that could be looked at spending wise,” Ouellette said. “My concern is to save taxpayers as much as we can and hopefully have full cooperation with any budget downfalls. I plan to be open-minded.”

Pulsifer: “I would attempt to consolidate responsibilities for town operations to fewer people lowering payroll costs,” Pulsifer said. “Submit town contracts to open bids utilizing competition to lower cost for town projects.”

Berry: “What’s really got me concerned is what happens with Question 1,” said Berry, who is seeking his third term. “That’s too heavy a burden for the state to bite off in one bite. It has a trickle-down effect. I also really have concerns about the Palesky bill in November. … That would be a drastic curtailment for Livermore. If that passes, we’d be faced with the dilemma of what services we could afford and what has to go. We’re trying to be fiscally responsible. We run the town darn right efficient.”
